This list of players includes only includes over 21’s so the likes of Trent Arnold & Declan Rice are still categorized as Under 21’s so aren’t yet eligible for the Premier League 25 man Squad.

33.84% of English players in the Premier League 25 man Squads is the highest number it’s been since I started keeping records back in 2013. It reached a high of 32.90% in September 2017 but it fell again and it’s great that it’s finally hit a new high. Part of the reason it’s so high is the great 1997 age group but also there’s more clubs investing in their home grown cores. Hopefully the figure will keep rising this time next year too.

With English youth development now so good, spending money on British players is now competitive. Add to this the fact that a lot of foreign players won’t necessarily join clubs out of the top six and all of a sudden more English talent gets a chance. Even Chelsea under Lampard are finally blooding some of their successful youngsters. I really hope this is the start of an even bigger growth, that at some point it can go to 35 or even 40 percent but its great it has gone up and that things are looking up for young English players in their own country’s top league.
