This 1998 age group has its final season as being an Under 21 footballer in 2019/20. Next season these 65 players have to break into the Premier League 25 man Squads.

Some of these players are already playing regularly in the Premier League season which bodes well. There’s a lot of talent in this age group but the big issue will be a lack of opportunity. Already quite a few of these footballers would be better off playing for clubs lower down the leagues where they’ll get the game time they need to develop.

If 15 of these footballers can make it into the 25 man squads next season then that wouldn’t be too bad. That’s only 23.07% but it is hard to make that step up such is the competition and obviously if more can make it that would be great.

We’ll come back to these players in a year’s time to see how they’ve got on and who’s made it into the nirvana that is the Premier League 25 man Squads.
